    MidSummer Day Picnic
    Sunday June 24
    11 am - 5 pm
Hinge Park, 215 West 1st Avenue

Please join us on Sunday June 24th from 11am - 5pm to celebrate Midsummer with a picnic at Hinge Park, 215 West 1st Avenue. Just a 9 minute walk from the new home of the Shambhala Centre, Hinge Park is located at the north end of Columbia street. This is a fair/any weather event that will not be rescheduled.

Hinge Park is a wheel chair assessable urban oasis that offers a wilded area complete with beaver habitat as well as a play area and water feature for children, an off leash dog park (Year of the Dog!), picnic tables, and a grass playing field for games. Coal and propane BBQ’s are permitted. (Please douse and carry out coals.) We encourage you to bring games and activities you enjoy, lawn chairs, blankets. One folding table will be provided and more are welcome.

In the spirit of our renovation, this year will be a scaled down event. Though sharing is encouraged, instead of a potluck, we ask each individual/group to bring a picnic — including potable water—  or purchase food from a food truck or other vendor in the Olympic Village Square. (No alcohol permitted on Park land.)

Hinge Park is assessable via Aquabus stops 5 and 8, walking, and biking via the sea wall. From the Olympic Village Canada Line Skytrain station it is a 10 minute walk via 1st Avenue (see map), or you can walk down Spyglass Place by following the right side of the Cambie Bridge and walk east along along the sea wall.  From the Main Street/Science World Skytrain station it is an 11 minute walk along the sea wall.

If you are arriving by car, drop your supplies off in the roundabout at Columbia St. and Athlete’s Way, and there are 6 free parking spots located on the westbound side of East 2nd Avenue starting at 255 East 2nd. Additionally there is 3 hour parking Westbound from Crowe St.. Pay parking is located under London Drugs in the Olympic Village Square.

Habitat Island, located across the seawall from Hinge Park is temporarily closed so arriving by personal water craft is not recommended. For more information see: http://www.vancourier.com/news/habitat-island-a-no-go-for-now-1.23257113

It is also important to note that restroom facilities are off site. The closest is JJ Bean, on the SE corner of 1st and Columbia, and located further down the sea wall, public facilities are located at Creekside Community Centre.
